Laser vs Electrolysis: What’s best for you?
Looking at getting hair removal but not sure which is the best for you? Laser and Electrolysis are the two main hair removal treatments on the market. With the introduction of Electrolysis at Laser Me Out we want to ensure you are fully armed with information to make the best choice for yourself!
But what are these hair removal techniques?
Before looking at the pros and cons of each treatment we need to go back to basics of hair removal. Both are effective and popular methods of hair removal but understanding the treatments can help you decide which is best for you!
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritties of laser removal:
Laser removal uses targeted laser beams to destroy hair follicles in a non-invasive way. A concentrated light beam is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, melanin. The light is then converted into heat, which damages the hair follicles and inhibits future hair growth. The laser effects different hair and skin types differently. This process allows us to target larger areas like the legs and back in a more time effective way!
- Non-evasive
- Time efficient procedure
- Long term results
- Pain-free
- However, best results are seen on light skin with dark hair
So what’s the difference with electrolysis?
Electrolysis is considered the only permanent hair removal treatment and is an ideal choice for long-term results. Unlike laser treatments, which target large areas at once, electrolysis targets individual hair follicles one by one. The procedure follows as a needle is inserted into each hair follicle, followed by a small electric current. By directly targeting the follicle, this method provides precision, leading to permanent hair removal.
- Permanent hair removal
- Suits all hair types
- Time consuming due to targeting the individual follicles and requires a long term commitment
- Can be painful and uncomfortable due to the needle
So what is best for you?
Whilst both treatments produce long lasting effects in comparison to waxing and shaving, electrolysis tends to yield more permanent results over time. However, electrolysis requires more treatments over a longer period of time as, unlike with laser, it cannot target larger areas at once as it focuses on the individual hairs. In contrast, laser removal is far more pain free whilst also being more time and cost efficient.
